Sailing with the Søren Larsen

The Voyage

It was a real privilidge to be able to take a trip like this - not quite re-living the days of sail, but at least getting some sort of taste for what it must have been like. Excellent company, food and weather made it an unforgettable experience.

My first view of the Soren Larsen, stern on to the quay in St Georges, Grenada (funilly enough, right outside 'The Nutmeg', bar and restaurant).

Tied up to (and somewhat dwarfted by) the Cruise Liner wharf, St Georges.
Early instructions in loosing the gaskets.
Kristy and the first sunset of the trip.
'Braces in hand', ready to trim the square sails.
Under sail. A short cruise around the southern end of Grenada to get us used to the ship while we waited for the Venezualen visas to come through.

Troy, Kristy, Judy and Lucy - furling the T'gallant.

Furling the outer jib - Chris and Daphne.
The outer jib furling team (Chris,Daphne and Crispin) out on the bowsprit.
Sally, Loa, Daphne and Rob shaking out the Coarse.
Looking back from the bowsprit - under way to Margarita.
Dinner in the saloon.
Unidentified marine life off Los Roquas.
A dolphin escort into Bonaire.

Brain corals.

Elkhorn coral and blackbar soldier fish.
Jima and Barry finishing furling the Coarse.
Sunset at Bonaire.
Force 7 and a 5 metre swell - fantastic sailing between Curacao and Cristobal.
Putting the cover on the fore staysail.
Anchored in Cristobal harbour, waiting for passage details for the Panama Canal.
Under way again - Judy and Sally washing mud off the anchor as it is stowed. This marked the start of the transit of the Panama Canal.
