The Foreign Legion Climbing Club was given its name by Paul Gough, skipper of a converted trawler that was chartered to take a bunch of climbers to Hoy in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland, where they were to climb the Old Man of Hoy - a 425 foot sea stack. The name stuck. | |
